COST OF LIVING:
I have been in the news and broadcasting business for nearly 40 years and over the decades I have heard a constant mantra, pass it to the consumer.
Big business has been making record profits since the great recession yet they refuse to pay fair wages and taxes. If you talk to them about a minimum wage increase or any other expense they will tell you they would have to pass the cost down to the consumer.
Average workers are continually being squeezed. About a week ago I saw a man holding a sign in Seymour that said…lost my job, being evicted, 4 kids. Unfortunately, I am sure he has plenty of company.
I am afraid we have entered into a new guided age with the current crop of well healed wealthy that would make the likes of the Vanderbuilts look like paupers.
From the time I was a young child I had it drilled into my head that the United States is the greatest country in the world. America does have many reasons to be proud but in the greatest country in the world is it too much to expect that everyone who works at least 40 hours a week be paid a livable wage?
